About Theresa Lee, MSCP, LPC

"Helping or healing often comes in the form of understanding."

My Journey To Becoming a Therapist

From a young age, I was drawn to philosophy and psychology—two fields that explore why humans behave the way they do. My curiosity led me to study psychology at the University of Pittsburgh, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, with a dual minor in philosophy and anthropology. I later pursued a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology at Chatham University, where I focused on both theoretical knowledge and practical application grounding my work in ethics, understanding, and care.

"I became a therapist because I wanted to help people understand themselves"

Over the nearly three decades of learning and practice, I have found that helping others comes most powerfully through fostering understanding for themselves and those who matter most to them.

Professional Experience & Accomplishments

For the first 10 years of my career, I worked as a substance abuse counselor supporting individuals and their families, while also teaching psychology courses as an adjunct at a local community college. This combination of clinical and teaching experience shaped the foundation of my work, blending practical care with a strong understanding of human behavior.

In 2014, I joined the faculty at Penn State’s Eberly Campus, where I moved into a full-time teaching role and later served as psychology program coordinator — a challenging and rewarding position that allowed me to shape the program and support both students and faculty. During my tenure at Penn State, I collaborated with the Justice and Safety Institute, creating and co-teaching seminars designed to help law enforcement strengthen communication skills and manage job-related stress.

I developed and facilitated an educational support group at UPMC East for families and loved ones of individuals with Substance Use Disorders. The group, which I started from the ground up, continues to serve the community today.

In 2021, I opened my private practice in Murrysville, combining my love for clinical work with my passion for helping others grow.

"I believe that all of us will face challenges at some point in life, and having someone to talk to who truly understands can make all the difference."

Life in the Community

I’m proud to serve the people of Murrysville and the surrounding communities, a place that has been part of my life since I was a child visiting my maternal grandparents. Being able to give back through my work brings me great fulfillment.

"Murrysville has been like a second home to me since childhood."

At home, I live in Mount Pleasant, PA with my two teenaged sons and our cats. I enjoy gardening, camping, watching documentaries, and recently I’ve been exploring beekeeping. These personal passions keep me grounded and help me bring balance, perspective, and energy to my work as a therapist.
